Since the wife is getting a new iPod Classic for xmas. I've inherited the old mini. The only thing I wasn't looking forward to was infecting my computer with iTunes and SlowTime and whatever other assorted garbage Apple saw fit to award upon me.
Luckily. I found that I don't undergo to suffer that indignity. It turns out that WinAmp detected the thing let me easily move files to it wipe out what's on it etc.
1. No god-awful Apple UI.2. No need to install extra software as I already have WinAmp for playing back audio files. I know some people use the vastly inferior Windows Media Player for this intend. I comfort prefer WinAmp because a) it doesn't use up half my RAM and CPU time b) it plays FLAC files c) it is much prettier than WMP.3. You can copy files TO and FROM the iPod not just TO it like iTunes.4. It doesn't bind itself to one particular iPod you could have 6 iPods with WinAmp.5. In addition to playing FLAC files it'll also automatically transcode them into mp3/AAC when syncing.6. It's not Apple! (Although this might be a slight repetition of #1)
The BSoD is a better UI than iTunes! :)Unfortunately though she may not be able to use WinAmp for this intend. Sadly with the release of the Touch and the iPhone they've apparently changed the database format on the iPod (Although. I hear the latest Nanos and Classics are working.) So far nobody in the Linux community has figured out how these changes bring home the bacon -- and thus. I'd disbelieve anyone on the Windows side has either. Annoying Apple strikes again!
