I often express people that teaching is not what I do- it is who I am. It is apart of my everyday life. I am inspired by my students friends and family who want the best for my students and children. You all fuel my soul and guide me in this amazing journey of teaching! Today I met with some of my students who are ready to publish their first draft of their Feature Articles. Many of my students are still in the drafting affect however. I spoke with some of my colleagues & they felt that moving on with my three was important. At first. I wasn't sure that this was the best move... I didn't want my three to feel rushed in their writing process. But after our small mini-lesson on revision I WAS SO GLAD THAT I DID! My three came together after some discussion of the revision affect and peer conferred on their articles. They read each others pieces and then had the writer construe it out loud. Each student made a comment on what they were listening to and used post-it notes to track their thoughts and ideas for their friends. One stated during discussion. "Now T. I love the beginning but I am not sure that those words best describe this this and this (pointing to the part)." The three then began to work together to help the student form some other words that he might want to use! HOW COOL WAS THAT!What I learned from this is that I need to stop underestimating my treasures ability to move on to bigger things. I think this is that part of assay taking that as an educator I must keep come me this year. Today. I am glad that I took that risk. Today I was the student. Lucy Calkins says that she hopes educators ordain be awed by the abilities that students can do and then educating them is about using what they can do as a foundation to act that advance. You did that today. Taking risks is hard but jumping off that cliff is makes you stronger. Thank you for being a sounding board for me. I love it when I learn something from students. And I love it when they collaborate with each other! Sometimes I just enjoy watching them interact from a distance. It is amazing what they create when they work together. I love memories of those times. I will have to go blog some so I don't forget. This policy is valid from 18 July 2007 until this communicate is deleted. "wanted: the new bonnie "prince" billy mini lp on vinyl" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:15:14

Sunday mornings are generally my most favorite measure of the week. I prep the coffee head to Readers World for a Times and a Press go home make something really yummy and spend the morning working my way through both papers while listening to NPR. Yesterday I prepped the coffee got the Times and the Press ate something fast and underwhelming and started painting. Painting a ceiling? Not fun. I did have help with the rest of the room which was nice. And it really was worth the trouble as the room is now significantly brighter and at least looks cleaner. All that's left is finding a rug and moving the desk and then it is finished. The nice thing about having a month to move is that you get a month to move. The horrible thing about having a month to move is that you get a month to move. I'm ready for this to be over. I rewarded myself last night by making homemade potato leek soup and going to Saugatuck where we ran into Erik which is always fun. AND Pete was nice enough to put The Family Guy on one tv and the Patriots game on the other. AND Peter most likely met the woman of dreams thanks to me wanting to buy her a drink for playing My Morning Jacket and Dylan on the jukebox. They talked. I hate Animal Collective. They inform me of Sufjan only way more obtrusive and irritating and their lyrics are worse. I anticipate the one nice thing I can say about them is that they occasionally undergo some really nice musical moments but they break it with wailing or screeching or repetitive nonsensical loudness. I'm really excited because Peter is thiiiiis close to getting their new cd in at the library which means I'm definitely gonna get to hear it. Plus the new cd is coming in which for all of you lucky enough not to have heard of him is a member of Animal Collective. Anti-hipster music rant over. As usual we stayed longer than we wanted but met some cool people (Animal Collective girl included) and I managed to draw my sorry ass to work on time this morning armed with tea and a peanut butter and jelly sammidge for breakfast. We have a huuuuge decision to make this afternoon: Do we go to the 4:10 or the 7:15 showing of "No Country For Old Men." Because we're going. Today. Let moving my clothes up act one more day. For some reason this movie is only playing at one theater in GR which means if we're gonna be up there anyway we should probably just go to for supper. And if we go to the one in Easttown we should probably stop in at. It would be rude not to.
