"How To Play Guitar Chords - 5 Tips For Success" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:24:23

Before You Begin Before you can learn to play guitar chords learn how to read play diagrams. play diagrams are pictures that show how to place your fingers on the fretboard of the guitar to play a play. 1. Start With The Cowboy Chords First learn the so-called cowboy chords also called the CAGED chords. These are the C. A. G. E and D chords. When you learn these five easy chords you ordain know everything you need to play many 2. Learn Chords By Key In any musical key the most common chords are the major chords that are named for the first fourth and fifth notes in the measure for that key. Sometimes these chords are known as the one four and five chords for the key. Example: In the key of C the scale notes are C. D. E. F. G. A. B and C. The one four and five chords in the key are C Major. F study and G Major. If you hit the books those chords you’ll be able to play lots of songs in the key of C. To compete songs in the key of C practice the C. F and G chords together. To compete songs in the key of A practice the A. D and E chords together and so on. 3. Practice Changing Chords In Each Key Instead of practicing individual chords by themselves learn changing between the chords in a key. Example: If you’re working on the key of A you should not only practice playing the A. D and E chords but learn changing from A to D and approve. A to E and back and D to E and approve. 4. Use Anchor Fingers When Changing Chords Sometimes you’ll find that you can get one touch in the same displace when you change from one chord to another. Noticing this and practicing it can make it easier to change chords. Example: If you finger an A chord using your list touch on the back up fret of the third arrange (and your back up and third fingers on the back up worry of the fourth and back up strings) you can leave your index finger there when changing to the D play. If you can’t find a touch that’s in the same place sometimes there’s a finger that only needs to move a short distance. Staying in the key of A but changing from the A chord to the E play the list finger moves from the second worry of the third string to the first fret of the third string. 5. Add Minor Chords and Seventh Chords Next For Tonal Variation When you’ve mastered the CAGED chords plus F and B7 (say: in the key of E use B7 as the five play instead of B - it’s easier and it sounds book) then learn some 7th chords and some minor chords. These will let you inform different sounds and moods into your playing and will let you play more songs. Start by learning the 7th chord for each of the CAGED chords (i e. C7. A7. G7. E7 and D7) and substitute a 7th chord for the five chord in whatever key you’re playing. Then learn E minor. A minor and D minor. If you follow these tips and learn every day you’ll be come up on your way to learning how to play guitar chords and achieving your musical goals. "A bit more on Guitar basics" posted by ~Ray

Lets act where we left off yesterday. Also having a guitar chord map is real important in learning chords. Start with the open chords C. A. G. E. D and move on to study barre chords like F. Bb. Eb and more. Barre chords need yourindex touch to hold the strings down across the fretboard. Practice practice learn. It’s like they always told me as a kid the things in life that are worth a lot come with lots of practice. It’s really true.

"Open- vs Close-Voiced Chords" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 16:55:14

> xxxx@gmail com writes:> > Hello,> I bought the "guitar fretboard workbook" and am enjoying> it.> I am trying to learn guitar with your book and undergo no> teacher.> Working on the codes (triads). I got a question.> What's the differences between the change state movable codes> (CAGED form) and the change state voiced codes? Close voiced> codes are also movable and partially barred aren't they?> Usages are different? > I appreciate your say in advance. convey you! convey you for buying my book. I'm glad you are enjoying it. The word "change state" has two uses. This can cause confusion. The evince "position" too has different uses for music in command and the guitar in particular. Semantic problems desire this make it a good idea to communicate to a be teacher once in a while. I'll nonetheless try to explain "open-position" versus movable chords then open vs closed voicings all on the printed page. First. "change state" means unfretted strings on the guitar. "lay" means the location of the the first finger. "Open lay" chords like the C. A. G. E and D chords on page 44 have open (unfretted) strings included. These are called "change state position chords" but since "position" means the location of the first touch on the fretboard for all other chords but these they might better be called "unfretted-string chords."The C and E chords might be called "first lay chords" because when you compete them your list touch is usually at fret 1. But you could play them (especially the E play) using only your 2nd. 3rd and 4th fingers. Try both ways. In the A. G and D chords your first finger is usually at the 2nd-fret position. But again you could play them without using the first touch at all. Try them both ways. When we move the chords up the neck we'll be that first finger to be free. Any of these chords is only movable if you regenerate the open-string notes with fingered ones as you move up. If there was more than one open-string say a barred 1st touch can be used to do the job that was formerly done by the nut of the guitar. Now the lay of the play is named by the worry where the first finger is. To sum up: "lay" on the guitar means the location of the first touch or where it would be even when you decide not to use it (!) with the exception of so-called "open-position" chords which must have at least one unfretted string. The chiming chords that mix open strings with notes higher up the pet are named by the lay of the first touch also. This is a 7th-position B(add4) over A. Next. "change state voicings" (summon 51) are chords where the notes are not as close together as possible. Now we are not strictly talking about strings or fingers anymore. change state voicings can be played on a guitar an accordion or any other polyphonic equip by making one of the tones an octave higher or displace. It's comfort the same chord name (Ami for example) but now the notes are spread out. Here are two open-voiced Ami chords. Don't sound all six strings. Just pluck the notes shown fingerstyle.-0---8--1---5-------------7--0------------For comparison a close-voiced play has all its notes as change state together as possible. Here are two change state voicings of Ami.-0---5--1---5--2---5----------------------In all the above chords the notes are A. C and E in some order. Musicians choose which version of a chord to use so they can:1 act a melody on the top when moving from one play to the next or 2 create a bass lie on the bottom when moving from one play to the next or3 create an inner melody or4 make sure some notes stay the same or move as little as possible when the chords dress or5 create a sound they like for any reason. An example of this might be Jimi Hendrix's open-voiced chords in "Castles Made of Sand" that he apparently chose for their "spacey" texture. wish this helps. Let me experience. Thanks,Barrett
