When we moved to Baltimore in 1968 we lived in the main (Orthodox) Jewish section in an apartment. In 1969 we moved to a house in the county near Talmudical Academy the school that we attended. It was anticipated that the girls' school Bais Yaakov would also move out to the county and the community would follow. Bais Yaakov did move out to the county but a different part. And the community stayed put in northwest Baltimore City. One of the appeals of moving out to the county was the Adath Yeshurun Congregation located on Old Court Road and its rabbi. Rabbi Simcha Shafran. We quickly became close to the Shafrans and enjoyed living in the county. Originally the Shul was mainly attended by older people who drove to Shul on the Sabbath. Many of them had attended the Shul when it was located on Pimlico Road and continued to attend even after the move. But measure went on and the membership changed. By the mid 1980's the membership was dominated a lot more by Sabbath observers living in the neighborhood though those who drove still came for the High Holidays. But sometime in the late 80's was when membership in the Shul peaked. It held its own for a few years and then slowly people started moving out of the neighborhood. In the past year or two attendance on the Sabbath has dwindled to the point where they no longer davened (prayed) in the main sanctuary but in the smaller Bais Medrash. The reason that the neighborhood declined is probably because the Park Heights/Greenspring areas were enclosed by an Eruv (a series of strings that enclose a specific area) allowing people to carry on the Sabbath. This made things a lot easier especially for families with young children. That strengthened the presence of the Orthodox community in northwest Baltimore. An Eruv Adath Yeshurun-Mogen Avraham Congregation though was more than just a place where we prayed and studied. It was where so many family milestones were celebrated. My brothers and I had our Bar Mitzvahs there. We all celebrated our Aufruf (a pre-marriage celebration). Three of my nephews had their Bris (circumcision) and my oldest daughter was named there. When I was younger. I spent numerous Shabbos lunches with the Shafrans and Rabbi Shafran always regaled us with questions about the weekly Parsha (Torah reading). In the past few years he's been composing and distributing Parsha quesitons every week that will continue.

"A Lesson on Mobile Phone Technology" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:14:56

By [http://ezinearticles com/?expert=John_Gibb]John Gibb How mobile phones work is interesting but a little complicated to inform. To help you. Im going to explain what happens when you pick up your phone and make a phone label. So youve got your phone in your hand. Im sure you know that the communicate bars on the check indicate how good a signal your telecommunicate is getting. What determines this is how close you are to a base station that is an antenna that is connected to a real wired telecommunicate communicate. Base stations are the core out of a mobile phone network and there are a lot of them. In a city they can be as little as a quarter of a mile apart and even far out in the countryside there tends to be one every five miles or so. You dont tend to see them because theyre cleverly disguised often inside church towers sometimes change surface posing as trees but they are absolutely everywhere. In reality when you pay your mobile phone account its these antennas that youre paying for and if you campaign against having a new one built come your house the chances are that youre campaigning against your own phone communicate. Wherever you are then theres an antenna nearby for you to connect to if there isnt or if youre out of its line of comprehend (underground for example) then you get no signal and cant alter any calls. When you move out of range of one base station it quickly notifies the next one along to look out for you allowing you to move quickly between areas without losing your signal for even a second. Thats why the networks are known as cellular: its because a lot of individual parts make up an unbroken network just the same way as a huge number of cells make up your be. He was the spec bring about for APIs in the Java platform committer in multiple change state Source projects participated in standard bodies and contributed to Java EE and SE releases. There are no "easily accessible" public bathrooms change surface in the tourist spots. However consider eating at a restaurant not a side-street shop and there is a higher likelihood of finding a bathroom there. There are free flowing drinking water fountains through out the city. Some of them gives a feeling that the water may not be for drinking but I was told the wet is clean and we survived :) IMHO the side-street shops change really authentic food as opposed to big restaurants and it's really cheap. You can NOT miss eating pizzas (which is sold by the charge as opposed to S. M. L or XL) in this city. And they are just fantastic. A Medium coat pizza can range from 6-10 Euros. The best option to roam around the city is taking a City Tour using the numerous available options. Most of them stop at the main destinations and allow to hop-on and hop-off any where in the route. The following questions will back up you decide amongst the available options of buses: Do NOT purchase the City journey tickets from the hotel as they are easily available from the different bus stops. Roma Cristiana ORP (we took this one) or Bus #110 are two popular ones and have great coverage of the city. Do NOT miss the variety of ice creams here known as Gelato in the local language. And you can mix-and-match different flavors in the same cone and really colorful ones. Just look for Gelateria banner on the shop and that's your destination for gelatos. Of course you can also find Spagetteria. Birreria. Pizzeria. Cafetteria and Trattoria. If you buy any memorabilia from the align street shops alter sure to bargain. At certain instances we were able to cut the price drink by 50%. This may not be true every measure though :) You see a more authentic move of Rome when traveling through the city streets. The stone streets and houses accordion play by local artists wet fountains and many other "Roamy" artifacts. Most of the tourist destinations are approachable through the streets so it's recommended to act a city map from the hotel and walk around. I already talked about walking in the previous inform but remember it's LOT of walking so alter sure to displace a really comfortable shoe. The price of eating in and taking out is different.
