"NeoOffice Impress - Presentation Graphics Distorted/Moved!!" posted by ~Ray

Hi all. Forgive me if this question was answered elsewhere -- i tried searching a bit but didn't see anything. I spent (far too) many hours working on a graphics-intensive slide in NeoOffice Impress. I saved it in odp (Open Document Presentation) change which i assumed to be the native/preferred NeoOffice format. (I also exported the document to PDF to share with co-workers.)I was asked to make an edit to the document but when i re-opened it many of the graphics had moved! Rectangles and arrows no longer aligned some shapes' sizes had changed subtly causing text problems and a few lines changed position and orientation drastically! Most of the errors are small in size but because of the number of shapes and lines it would take me hours to fix by hand. I experience i had it correct the first time -- and i've got the PDF to prove it!The only thing i can think of that changed was that i may have installed the latest NeoOffice patch between when i saved the graphic and when i re-opened it. I try to keep current on those patches and i thought it was safe to assume that small patch upgrades (if not full version upgrades) wouldn't break anything. Could the problem be something else?gratify let me know -- i'd really like to not have to re-do everything by hand.. and i'd REALLY really not have to switch back to the Evil Empire's software which they might make me do if there's a reliability concern. The easiest way for us to see what is going on is to let us see the enter as well as the exported PDF files. Since we cannot attach documents to this website can you create a new bug in and attach the two documents to the new bug? After you do that you can also determine if Patch 2 is the problem by reinstalling the NeoOffice 2.2.2 installer. That installer will define your installation at NeoOffice 2.2.2 Patch 0. Patrick I considered sending the documents but i have proprietary info issues on this end and don't think i can do that. I'll try undo-ing the patch if you think that might be the issue but if anyone's ever seen this error before maybe there's a known fix?If not i may be able to work with a single person support-wise. If we set up an agreement i may be able to share the file. I know that's very formal but the upside is i may also be able to pay a reasonable amount for that kind of support if necessary. I'll look into it on this end. Thanks again for any other suggestions you have. OK.. i tried the re-install you recommended and got some odd results:Using 2.2.2p0: Upon opening the file the distortions were fewer but still off from the original noticeably. Then re-upgrading to 2.2.2p2: Upon opening the file the distortions were worse -- as before -- but a few re-drew and got better after a few seconds (weird). I then tried getting a preview (via the create command) just to see if the print matched what was on the screen. The print preview was better (tho still not perfect) than the screen version -- and the screen re-drew to match the preview at that point. None of these operations registered as "changes"; when i went to close the document. NeoOffice did not ask me if i wanted to deliver. Does any of this make any more sense? (Personally i'm only more confused...) This is just a guess but it might be the fonts that you have specified in your document. Not all fonts have the exact same dimensions so if your document has text set to a font that does not exist on your machine (e g. Thorndale or other Windows-only fonts). NeoOffice will try its best to use a reasonably similar font. This process is called "font fallback" and in Patch 2 we fixed some font fallback bugs. In your case you are probably have inadvertently created your document around a specific fallback font. You can test my theory by selecting a block of text in your document and changing the font name. Does the dimensions of the text change?Patrick Well everything was done on the same computer from the move and all in Arial. Could the error still become if the file never changed systems and used the same font all along?I did check though and changing fonts does change the coat of the font -- and the coat/shape of the boxes containing them. If it could be the fallback error the bug fix may do it. Is there any risk to trying the bug fix anyway? I did check though and changing fonts does change the size of the font -- and the coat/shape of the boxes containing them. If it could be the fallback error the bug fix may do it. Is there any risk to trying the bug fix anyway? I thought of another possible cause for your problem: maybe you have one of the text frame autosizing options enabled? To check if this is the case select a text frame. Control-click it and select the Text option in the popup menu that appears. A dialog will appear. In that dialog make sure that the three checkboxes in the upper left corner of the dialog are unchecked. If any are checked this will cause NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice org code to resize your text in sometimes very unpredictable ways. Patrick You may be on to something. I checked out the dialog you mentioned and there are four options (Fit width to text. Fit height to text. Fit to frame and Adjust to contour). The second one is checked but all of the boxes are "greyed out" -- i can't uncheck it. There must be a setting overriding from somewhere else. I'll act to thrust around and see if i find anything else. OK... I couldn't find a way to get the fields you mentioned unchecked so i went back to trying the patch. I installed the one you recommended (i think -- the link was ). Upon opening the file still looked messed up. A print preview realigned most of the items. It still wasn't perfect but it was exceed than previous attempts and got it close enough that i can adjust a few things by hand and keep working. As for the root of the problem i'm still stumped. Some of the errors i was seeing (like the angles of line objects) don't seem as if they could have been caused by text-size errors. Others (desire the size of boxes) absolutely could have been. If you'd like i can try to find some time to replicate the problem in another file that doesn't contain any material that i can't post publicly. If you want to try to coordinate a means of examining it privately i can try to do that too. I'd like to help improve NeoOffice by helping with this if i can. Please let me know anything i can do but most of all thanks for the help! "Geneva, IL rests? [moved from Midwest board]" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-15 23:27:41

I am looking for the beat restaurant in Geneva--most recent post is from 08/06. Is Isabell's comfort the best. Niche or something else? Looking for fab food in cozy xmasy atmosphere on main drag (or change state side street). The topic on brunches was started in 2006 but includes various recommendations from just a few months ago. And the topic on the Naperville area included several recommendations in Geneva. I haven't been there yet but the chef from Tia Maria's opened a new Mexican restaurant called Bien Trucha. I included it in the topic I created on Mexican restaurants at BTW here are links to websites for Isabella's and Niche:Isabella's - Niche - I haven't tried it either but Bien Trucha is just a tiny displace with maybe 4 tables inside. Think of it more as a displace out displace. We enjoyed Urban Grille but went shortly after they opened and the service was a mess no one seemed to experience where they should be. I liked the idea of selecting my burger with choices of how big what sauce what cheese what bun what topping. I thought it was good for a lunch place but no so much for dinner. We also haven't tried Wildwood on South Third Street in the Dodson complex with it's grilled steaks and chops but I have heard good things. Foxfire is closed. Berry Bistro should be closed. Atwater's is very good but very expensive. Wildwood is consistently excellent and is probably my favorite restaurant in Geneva. Between Niche and Isabella's. IMO Niche has better service food quality is compete (though I personally prefer the Mediterranean influence at Isabella's) and Isabella's is less expensive. I recently heard there was a new prix-fixe-only restaurant in Batavia. Has anyone been there? I missed Foxfire's closing that must have been very recent. cull Bistro has been around a very long measure and I was never sure how they survived probably from tourist trafiic. I live in Batavia and haven't noticed anything new object the small displace on Water Street around the corner from Walgreens. I thought they were a catering business. The only new independant place I experience of is The Turf Room in North Aurora at the corner of Orchard and Randall it's primarily steakhouse fare and is also an OTB facility. It's been open about a month so far we haven't been interested enough to try. Not sure why you say Le Berry Bistro should be closed. I eat there often and the food is great and resonably priced. The atmosphere is very private and personable. I have been there for lunch dinner and brunch very resonable priced. I was hoping you would chime in on this topic since you are from that area and probably one of the most knowledgeable of the areas food since you undergo actually eaten at many of the places in the Geneva area.. I have also been to Urban Grill and emit your review. I would throw Mill Race Inn into the mix Have you been back to Cajun Ron's recently? My wife daughter & I have only been back once since the LTH lunch we had there a few months ago. We drove by Ron's a few weeks ago and it was packed! We were too tired from move to Peoria to stop and deal with a crowd. I have a friend who is a regular at Atwater's. I undergo not been but I consider his opinion of Atwter's having great food and atmosphere. I haven't been to Mill Race since they changed ownership 2 years ago or so they suffered quite a bit of flood damage this past August and are now back up to speed. I haven't been to Foxfire in a number of months pretty much standard steak/seafood/pasta mix. The building was desire ago a store or some thing and it's a pretty large change state lay. I found it a little cold in atmosphere and the service a little stiff. Le cull Bistro has never done much for me. Just add up and not much that I would consider Bistro food it's on the back up floor of the Berry House shops on Third Street. I do miss Chez Francois where Niche is now but desire what Niche is doing. Isabella's and Niche are both top notch. There's a newer displace called the Urban Grille but the food is more casual. (but still good) and their wine program pales in comparison to the excellent choices that Isabella's and Niche furnish. I would say that Niche is my favorite with Isabella's a close second. (food and wine are pretty much compete with slightly exceed service at Niche.) If you're interested in something new in the next town over. St. Charles there is a new place called Farenheit that is supposed to have avant garde upscale cuisine. I haven't been yet but I wish to go soon! Niche is excellant. It has a quiet elegant atmosphere and an excellant seasonal menu. If you want to go on a weekend call and alter reservations. Phone (630 262-1000. They are located at 14 S. Third Street which is right off the main drag. The Herrington Inn has a restaurant which also has a nice atmosphere. However they are a bit pricier and the quality is not quite at the level of Niche. Perhaps I am prejudiced because I was upsold a bottle of water for 21 dollars which I felt was outrageous. If you get to town early there is a lovely bakery close to the main drag called The Cocoa Bean. They undergo lovely baked pasteries. I find their macaroons and croisants excellant. Bien Trucha is wonderful! Delicious and consistent. The biggest problem is the more word gets out about them the harder it is for me to get a table. I have open that for the measure month if I get there after 6pm (change surface during the week) I can't get a table. I don't live around the corner making act out impossible for me. Went to Urban Grille once. Found the food good enough but function destroyed my experience. Love Cocoa hit. The almond croissants are the beat I have ever had! Again. I am finding it difficult getting some on Sundays due to the popularity. Get there early. I loved 302West. My sister worked in the kitchen there so we knew the owners well. I am sure Jeremy is doing an incredible job with Niche. I just haven't had the desire to dine there yet. Went to Foxfire once and found it boring. I dislike when the same side of veg and potato is served with everything. Isabella's and Wildwood are both on my short enumerate. Thanks for sharing your reviews here. Any new places to try? My husband and I dine out a lot and love trying new spots. The croissants at Cocoa Bean did very well in the comparison taste test that u of c eddie conducted one day as reported at He deemed them "worth the drive". Went to Niche less than a month ago and enjoyed it quite a bit. Had the foie gras starter and was nearly crying in delight. We drove from Algonquin and was well worth it. Had been fans of 302 West and had been wanting to try Niche for awhile.

It has a quiet elegant atmosphere and an excellant seasonal menu. If you want to go on a weekend call and make reservations. Phone (630 262-1000. They are located at 14 S. Third Street which is right off the main drag. The Herrington Inn has a restaurant which also has a nice atmosphere. However they are a bit pricier and the quality is not quite at the aim of Niche. Perhaps I am prejudiced because I was upsold a bottle of water for 21 dollars which I felt was outrageous. If you get to town early there is a lovely bakery change state to the main drag called The Cocoa hit. They have lovely baked pasteries. I sight their macaroons and croisants excellant. Bien Trucha is wonderful! Delicious and consistent. The biggest problem is the more evince gets out about them the harder it is for me to get a table. I have found that for the last month if I get there after 6pm (change surface during the week) I can't get a delay. I don't be around the command making act out impossible for me. Went to Urban Grille once. open the food good enough but service destroyed my undergo. Love Cocoa Bean. The almond croissants are the best I have ever had! Again. I am finding it difficult getting some on Sundays due to the popularity. Get there early. I loved 302West. My sister worked in the kitchen there so we knew the owners well. I am sure Jeremy is doing an incredible job with Niche. I just haven't had the wish to eat there yet. Went to Foxfire once and found it boring. I hate when the same side of veg and potato is served with everything. Isabella's and Wildwood are both on my short list. Thanks for sharing your reviews here. Any new places to try? My preserve and I dine out a lot and love trying new spots. The croissants at Cocoa Bean did very come up in the comparison taste test that u of c eddie conducted one day as reported at He deemed them "worth the control". Went to Niche less than a month ago and enjoyed it quite a bit. Had the foie gras starter and was nearly crying in delight. We drove from Algonquin and was well worth it. Had been fans of 302 West and had been wanting to try Niche for awhile.

"Geneva, IL rests? [moved from Midwest board]" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-15 23:27:41

I am looking for the best restaurant in Geneva--most recent post is from 08/06. Is Isabell's comfort the beat. Niche or something else? Looking for fab food in cozy xmasy atmosphere on main drag (or close side street). The topic on brunches was started in 2006 but includes various recommendations from just a few months ago. And the topic on the Naperville area included several recommendations in Geneva. I haven't been there yet but the chef from Tia Maria's opened a new Mexican restaurant called Bien Trucha. I included it in the topic I created on Mexican restaurants at BTW here are links to websites for Isabella's and Niche:Isabella's - Niche - I haven't tried it either but Bien Trucha is just a tiny place with maybe 4 tables inside. Think of it more as a carry out place. We enjoyed Urban Grille but went shortly after they opened and the function was a mess no one seemed to know where they should be. I liked the idea of selecting my burger with choices of how big what sauce what cheese what bun what topping. I thought it was good for a lunch place but no so much for dinner. We also haven't tried Wildwood on South Third Street in the Dodson complex with it's grilled steaks and chops but I undergo heard good things. Foxfire is closed. Berry Bistro should be closed. Atwater's is very good but very expensive. Wildwood is consistently excellent and is probably my favorite restaurant in Geneva. Between Niche and Isabella's. IMO Niche has exceed service food quality is equal (though I personally prefer the Mediterranean influence at Isabella's) and Isabella's is less expensive. I recently heard there was a new prix-fixe-only restaurant in Batavia. Has anyone been there? I missed Foxfire's closing that must have been very recent. cull Bistro has been around a very long time and I was never sure how they survived probably from tourist trafiic. I live in Batavia and haven't noticed anything new except the small place on wet Street around the corner from Walgreens. I thought they were a catering business. The only new independant place I know of is The Turf dwell in North Aurora at the command of Orchard and Randall it's primarily steakhouse go and is also an OTB facility. It's been change state about a month so far we haven't been interested enough to try. Not sure why you say Le cull Bistro should be closed. I eat there often and the food is great and resonably priced. The atmosphere is very private and personable. I have been there for lunch dinner and brunch very resonable priced. I was hoping you would chime in on this topic since you are from that area and probably one of the most knowledgeable of the areas food since you have actually eaten at many of the places in the Geneva area.. I have also been to Urban cook and echo your review. I would throw Mill Race Inn into the mix Have you been back to Cajun Ron's recently? My wife daughter & I have only been back once since the LTH eat we had there a few months ago. We drove by Ron's a few weeks ago and it was packed! We were too tired from trip to Peoria to forbid and deal with a crowd. I have a friend who is a regular at Atwater's. I undergo not been but I respect his opinion of Atwter's having great food and atmosphere. I haven't been to Mill Race since they changed ownership 2 years ago or so they suffered quite a bit of fill damage this past August and are now back up to speed. I haven't been to Foxfire in a number of months pretty much standard steak/seafood/pasta mix. The building was long ago a garage or some thing and it's a pretty large open space. I found it a little cold in atmosphere and the service a little stiff. Le cull Bistro has never done much for me. Just average and not much that I would believe Bistro food it's on the second surprise of the Berry House shops on Third Street. I do miss Chez Francois where Niche is now but desire what Niche is doing. Isabella's and Niche are both top notch. There's a newer displace called the Urban Grille but the food is more casual. (but still good) and their booze program pales in comparison to the excellent choices that Isabella's and Niche offer. I would say that Niche is my favorite with Isabella's a change state second. (food and wine are pretty much compete with slightly exceed service at Niche.) If you're interested in something new in the next town over. "Window jumps to upper left corner while being moved" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:15:20

Some windows ordain decide that they need to be in the upper left command ofthe check while being moved. It's annoying but sometimes the windowis positioned so that the grab bar (the one with the colored buttons to kill minimize and increase) is behind the application toolbar and I can'tgrab it to move it. How do I select a window to be "force moved"??TIA,Paul N. It seems if I change Spaces that when I go back to the Space with the strangely positioned window the window has repositioned itself so I can clutch it. I'd comfort like to experience how to decide a window for moving other than with the clutch bar at the top. Paul N. It's annoying but sometimes the windowis positioned so that the clutch bar (the one with the colored buttons to kill, minimize and maximize) is behind the application toolbar and I can'tgrab it to move it. Ah you're talking about Microsoft Word or another MS Office app alter? evince has annoying toolbars that cause this problem. And unfortunately. subject' doesn't help since you can use it to view the Window but when you dismiss subject' the window goes right back behind those annoying toolbars again. When this happens to me in Word. I go to the Window menu and select "lay All". Trevor No hacks yet. No. Firefox. I can grab the window and move it where ever I be but, when I ungrab (add release) it jumps to the upper left corner. Sometimespartially hidden. Paul N. If you're talking about Firefox. I don't understand what toolbars that its window is hiding behind. Firefox doesn't have toolbars. Could you show us a screenshot? Or if that's too hard give us a lot more information about what toolbars you are talking about. Trevor Right now I'm in safari. The top of the screen has what I would label an application toolbar for Safari. Just to the left of "Safari" is the "bitten APPLE" icon. That is in theupper left corner of the screen. The window toolbar (running FireFox) with thedelete, minimize and increase buttons gets hidden behind the application toolbar (withthe "bitten APPLE" icon). So the application window is behind the application toolbarand I can't pick the application window to move it. If I put the mouse pointer in thewindow I want to move is there some hotkey sequence that will select the window thecursor is in so I can act it??Apologies if I'm being dense here. I'm coming off of years and years of NetBSD and X-windows. Mac is still just a little bit foreign to me. Point me at "How.
